In this edition of Business Buzz, we’re highlighting Lume Asian Fusion, a vibrant culinary gem in Historic Downtown Manassas where Korean flavors meet the South Pacific, blended into American cuisine in a modern tiki-inspired setting. Owned by James Shoemaker, Lume offers a warm, laid-back atmosphere perfect for enjoying home-style recipes, fresh ingredients, and inventive cocktails that keep guests coming back.
There’s a Korean saying, “rice cakes that look good and also good to eat”—a phrase that captures the idea of a beautifully plated dish that’s just as pleasing to the palate as it is to the eyes. At Lume, this philosophy is reflected in every detail, as James and his team aim to serve food that looks as good as it tastes, day in and day out.
Bringing Family Recipes to the Table
James was inspired to open Lume to introduce bold, new flavors to the community, drawing from his family’s heritage and culinary traditions. “We wanted to share a piece of our families’ recipes and bring something fresh to the area,” he says. The most rewarding part? Seeing familiar faces return, meeting new guests, and hearing positive feedback that fuels the team’s passion.
Hand-Selected Ingredients & Standout Dishes
Lume sets itself apart by personally sourcing ingredients that can’t be found through typical vendors. James makes weekly trips to select specialty items by hand, ensuring the authenticity and quality of each dish. This attention to detail shines in customer favorites like the Kalbi and Pork Belly Platters, Jap-Chae, and comforting rice bowls—especially popular during the colder months.
And the accolades speak for themselves—in their first year participating in the Historic Manassas Souper Bowl, Lume took home the win with their rich, flavorful Pork Belly Ramen.

Seasonal Flavors & Gift-Worthy Options
Whether you're cooling off with a tropical summer cocktail or cozying up with a hearty winter dish, Lume delivers bold flavor all year long. Their rotating seasonal cocktail menu keeps things fresh and exciting, while gift cards in any amount make it easy to share the experience with friends and family.
Lume Asian Fusion is currently located at 9110 Center Street, inside an impressive brick building constructed in 1904 that once housed the Peoples Bank of Manassas—a historic space now home to a uniquely modern dining experience.
