Born a slave in western Prince William County in 1852, Jane "Jennie" Serepta Dean founded Manassas Industrial School so young African American children could learn a marketable trade. The memorial located on the actual site of the 1893 school provides a captivating glimpse into the life of young African American men and women after the Civil War.
