First performed in 1944\, Jean-Paul Sartre’s groundbreaking play confronts audiences with urgent questions about identity\, responsibility\, and the ways we define ourselves through others. \nThe play takes place in a stark\, windowless room in the afterlife\, where three strangers—Garcin\, Inès\, and Estelle—are brought together with no mirrors\, no escape\, and no explanation of their punishment. As they wait for the expected physical tortures of hell to begin\, they instead find themselves trapped in an eternal psychological standoff. With nothing to do but talk\, observe\, and judge one another\, their past actions and deepest insecurities are slowly revealed. \nAs the characters attempt to justify their lives and seek validation\, it becomes clear that each is both victim and tormentor. DESCRIPTION:On display: October 3 – November 1\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, October 3 | 6:00–8:00 PM\nMeet the artists\, explore the collection\, enjoy refreshments and live music\, and soak in the eerie atmosphere\, with scare actors from Factory of Fear: Outbreak haunted house adding to the experience. \nExhibit Summary\nIn conjunction with ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear event and fundraiser\, the Caton Merchant Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Patient Zero: An Exhibition\, a juried group exhibition featuring over 70 compelling works of art by 54 talented artists from across the DMV region. \nRunning from October 3 through November 1\, 2026\, Patient Zero blurs the line between fine art and immersive storytelling. Inspired by this year’s terrifying Factory of Fear theme\, Outbreak\, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a chilling archive of mysterious events\, unsettling discoveries\, and the unknown. \nThe exhibit embraces the eerie\, the haunting\, and the beautifully macabre. While artwork inspired directly by the zombie-themed haunted house is encouraged\, artists have also explored broader interpretations of darkness and mystery. Visitors can expect anatomical studies and scientific curiosities\, supernatural figures\, ghostly portraits\, dystopian visions\, folklore\, decay\, the ethereal\, and the undead. From psychological and gothic imagery to surreal and horror-inspired works\, the exhibition offers an unsettling variety of artistic perspectives. \nThe exhibition features a diverse range of mediums\, including photography\, sculpture\, painting\, digital art\, fiber art\, printmaking\, and more. \nRather than existing solely as a traditional gallery exhibition\, Patient Zero will become part of the immersive environment of ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear haunted house. During the haunted house run\, original works of art will be incorporated into the attraction\, allowing thousands of visitors to encounter the artists’ creations as part of the larger Outbreak experience. \nPatient Zero: An Exhibition opens with a free Artist Reception on Saturday\, October 3\, from 6–8 PM at the ARTfactory (9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA). \nThe exhibition will be open for regular public gallery viewing from October 3–10. During the Factory of Fear haunted house run from October 11–24\, the exhibition will be incorporated into the attraction and will not be available for standard gallery visitation. DESCRIPTION:On display: October 3 – November 1\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, October 3 | 6:00–8:00 PM\nMeet the artists\, explore the collection\, enjoy refreshments and live music\, and soak in the eerie atmosphere\, with scare actors from Factory of Fear: Outbreak haunted house adding to the experience. \nExhibit Summary\nIn conjunction with ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear event and fundraiser\, the Caton Merchant Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Patient Zero: An Exhibition\, a juried group exhibition featuring over 70 compelling works of art by 54 talented artists from across the DMV region. \nRunning from October 3 through November 1\, 2026\, Patient Zero blurs the line between fine art and immersive storytelling. Inspired by this year’s terrifying Factory of Fear theme\, Outbreak\, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a chilling archive of mysterious events\, unsettling discoveries\, and the unknown. \nThe exhibit embraces the eerie\, the haunting\, and the beautifully macabre. While artwork inspired directly by the zombie-themed haunted house is encouraged\, artists have also explored broader interpretations of darkness and mystery. Visitors can expect anatomical studies and scientific curiosities\, supernatural figures\, ghostly portraits\, dystopian visions\, folklore\, decay\, the ethereal\, and the undead. From psychological and gothic imagery to surreal and horror-inspired works\, the exhibition offers an unsettling variety of artistic perspectives. \nThe exhibition features a diverse range of mediums\, including photography\, sculpture\, painting\, digital art\, fiber art\, printmaking\, and more. \nRather than existing solely as a traditional gallery exhibition\, Patient Zero will become part of the immersive environment of ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear haunted house. During the haunted house run\, original works of art will be incorporated into the attraction\, allowing thousands of visitors to encounter the artists’ creations as part of the larger Outbreak experience. \nPatient Zero: An Exhibition opens with a free Artist Reception on Saturday\, October 3\, from 6–8 PM at the ARTfactory (9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA). \nThe exhibition will be open for regular public gallery viewing from October 3–10. During the Factory of Fear haunted house run from October 11–24\, the exhibition will be incorporated into the attraction and will not be available for standard gallery visitation. DESCRIPTION:On display: October 3 – November 1\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, October 3 | 6:00–8:00 PM\nMeet the artists\, explore the collection\, enjoy refreshments and live music\, and soak in the eerie atmosphere\, with scare actors from Factory of Fear: Outbreak haunted house adding to the experience. \nExhibit Summary\nIn conjunction with ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear event and fundraiser\, the Caton Merchant Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Patient Zero: An Exhibition\, a juried group exhibition featuring over 70 compelling works of art by 54 talented artists from across the DMV region. \nRunning from October 3 through November 1\, 2026\, Patient Zero blurs the line between fine art and immersive storytelling. Inspired by this year’s terrifying Factory of Fear theme\, Outbreak\, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a chilling archive of mysterious events\, unsettling discoveries\, and the unknown. \nThe exhibit embraces the eerie\, the haunting\, and the beautifully macabre. While artwork inspired directly by the zombie-themed haunted house is encouraged\, artists have also explored broader interpretations of darkness and mystery. Visitors can expect anatomical studies and scientific curiosities\, supernatural figures\, ghostly portraits\, dystopian visions\, folklore\, decay\, the ethereal\, and the undead. From psychological and gothic imagery to surreal and horror-inspired works\, the exhibition offers an unsettling variety of artistic perspectives. \nThe exhibition features a diverse range of mediums\, including photography\, sculpture\, painting\, digital art\, fiber art\, printmaking\, and more. \nRather than existing solely as a traditional gallery exhibition\, Patient Zero will become part of the immersive environment of ARTfactory’s annual Factory of Fear haunted house. During the haunted house run\, original works of art will be incorporated into the attraction\, allowing thousands of visitors to encounter the artists’ creations as part of the larger Outbreak experience. \nPatient Zero: An Exhibition opens with a free Artist Reception on Saturday\, October 3\, from 6–8 PM at the ARTfactory (9419 Battle St\, Manassas\, VA). \nThe exhibition will be open for regular public gallery viewing from October 3–10.
